INTRODUCTION
You have been learning about natural resources. During this quest you will use your knowledge and join a team of young recruits to present your ideas to the Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA is looking for some fresh ideas on conserving our nonrenewable natural resources and making energy to power our world in new ways. The team that comes up with the best ideas will get to work with top scientists and make their ideas real.
PA Curriculum Standards this project meets are:S4.A.1 Reasoning and Analysis and S4.A.1.1 Identify and explain the application of scientific, environmental or technological knowledge to possible solutions to problems
TASK
You will work in a team of 4 students to complete a PowerPoint presentation. You will present the PowerPoint to the class as if we are the EPA. Your PowerPoint is to be about a one nonrenewable natural resource that your group decides on together. You will give conservation tips for this resource and a new way to make energy so we can save as much of this resource as possible. Be creative.
Remember the future generations are depending on us to conserve and invent new power sources to give them a life full of the same luxuries we have, ex. cars, heat.
Think and brainstorm about what things would be like without this resource in the future and the problems it would cause for people. Use this as the motivation to get others to conserve it in your power point.
Each person in your group needs a specific job, the four to choose from are:
TASK MANAGER You will make sure every one stays on task.
EDITOR You are responsible to correct spelling and grammar in power point.
TECH EXPERT You are in charge of adding transitions and animations to the power point.
WEB SEARCHER You are responsible for navigating to websites and noting the ones you used as sources.
Be sure to have at least 2 pictures in your power point and at least 4 transitions or effects.
RESOURCES
Your textbook should be your first source then children's books like "Ten Things I Can Do To Help My World" by Melanie Walsh and "Energy For the Future" by Helen Orme could be helpful. Go to library and see if you can find books about conserving resources and energy sources for the future.
