Vocabulary and definitions

Natural resources are materials found in nature that people can use. Some natural resources are soil, water, trees and minerals.

A renewable resource can be replaced. For example, we can plant new trees to replace those we have used. But, it takes time for trees to grow, so we have to conserve them.

A nonrenewable resource cannot be replaced. Fossil fuels are nonrenewable resources.

are fuels found in the earth that were made from the remains of plants and animals that lived millions of years ago.

Conserve means to use resources wisely and carefully so they are not wasted or destroyed. Conserving resources helps protect the environment.
